Frequently Answered Questions What is Mr. Deity? Mr. Deity is a semi-monthly video series (every two weeks) that looks at God and the Universe with a smile (and sometimes, a wink). What is your goal? Our goal is to turn this into a half-hour series for television. What is the name of the theme song and where can I find it? The theme song was written and performed by me (Brian) as is the song that plays at the end of the show and on Mr. Deity's phone (a kitschy bossanova version of the same tune). When (if?) I get time, I will finish those songs and make them available as downloads and ringtones. (TRIVIA: The theme song was actually written for a feature film of mine that we hope to make soon called "15 Minutes Later". You can find out more about that project here. There are a couple of unfinished songs there as well -- in the "gallery" section. Feel free to download them if you'd like.) Mr. Deity, you write, direct, shoot, edit, score, and act in the show. Is there anything you can't do? I once tried creating something so big that I couldn't lift it. I was able to do that. But then I also realized that I could lift it too without not being able to not create something so big that I couldn't lift it. I could make you understand that, but your head would explode. Are you single? I can never tell if this question is directed at Mr. Deity or me. But oddly enough the answer is the same for both of us --- "I could make you understand. But again, your head would explode." Let's just say we've both acheived an interesting state of "oneness." Are Mr. Deity and Larry gay? No. Not that there's anything wrong with that. And I never said anything about homosexuality being an "abomination." I said something once about America possibly becoming an "Obama Nation" and before I knew it, people were being castigated and looked down on. I like everyone with "design sense." (Jimbo and I are not gay either. If we were though, we'd definitely be headed to Boston, MA -- I love that balding little bastard). Brian, what is your stand on Religion? I am a formerly religious person (non-bitter), and as such, have great sympathies for the beliefs and feelings of religious people. I love the fact that they are concerned with the big issues like Good and Evil, Existence, Creation, etc... I don't always agree with the answers they provide to these questions, but I deeply respect their concern. Our goal here is not to mock religion, but to use it as a foundation for the humor. I'm thrilled that so many religious people have written to tell me that they love the episodes. In future episodes, I intend to turn the tables a bit and poke fun at what I call the "angry atheists" (of whom I am not fond). We'll see if they take it so well. Is 2+2 always 4? Always! Except sometimes (OMG! I'm channeling the ninja!) What do you use to shoot the show? We shoot on a Panasonic HVX200 in 720p High Definition DVCProHD. I also use a Redrock Micro 35mm adapter. The mic is an Audio Technica AT4073a. And we edit the show in Final Cut Pro HD on Macintosh computers. How do you get your stuff to look so good on YouTube? I'm the Deity. Actually, I think it has a lot to do with the quality of the camera (garbage in, garbage out, etc...). Before uploading, I convert the file with QuickTime Pro to h.264, 480x360 pixels at 24fps, better quality, and with a keyframe every 24 frames. The audio is set to AAC, VBR 96-110, 32k stereo. I hope that helps. (BTW, we think the stuff on YouTube looks awful because we've seen the pure HD.) How many episodes will there be? As many as it takes (see question two). Why does your voice sound like that? I do the entire show on helium. It gives me a tremendous headache, but I think it's worth it. If Jesus was with the me whole time, why is there only one set of footprints? Okay, he wasn't really with you. He wanted to be, but our meeting ran late, and... well, there was traffic... You know how it goes. We all have the best of intentions. |
